Trek to Muktinath

Muktinath is one of the most important pilgrimage sites of Nepal for both Buddhists and Hindus. It is located in Mustang District at the foot of the Himalayas at an altitude of 3710 m and is a great example to our world of a sacred place shared in harmony by devotees of two world religions.
Our trek to Muktinath begins from Nayapul after a short drive of about 45 minutes from Pokhara. The trail goes over the Ghorepani pass to an amazing vantage point of Poon Hill (2775m), where you can enjoy a spectacular sunrise over the whole Himalayan range and the surrounding rice terraces, before descending down through rhododendron forests to Tatopani (1190m). The trek then ascends gently along the Kaligandaki Gorge, the deepest in the world, towards an old-fashioned Thakali village of Ghasha (2120m). As you trek away from Ghasha towards Larjung, you can not stop marvelling at the architectural splendours of this exotic town. The trail further roves through stone-walled orchards. Soon you will come across a stone gate that marks the entrance to Marpha (2713m), a quaint village popular for its local apple brandy. Heading away from Marpha, via Jomsom and Kagbeni, the trek climbs up through increasing arid and impressive landscapes with dominating view of Mt Dhaulagiri and Mt. Nilgiri. More meadows, streams and lush vegetation can be seen along the trail as it finally paves to the holy place Muktinath (3710m), pilgrims’ ultimate destination. On our way back we explore Jomsom for a day before flying back to Pokhara.
